Doug's
♥ Wild Side Pets ♥

Our hours HAVE CHANGED as follows:

Weekdays: 12-7

Sat: 11-7

Sun: CLOSED

Doug's Wild Side is run solely by family

We are NOT like any other pet store

Here at Doug's Wild Side our pets are part of the family!

We are family owned and family operated!

We are now located at 244 West Hamilton Avenue.

Please come visit us at our recently renewed and custom built location.

A little about our store and our family.

Firstly, we love animals. If we did not care about animals, we would not be here. We put our everything into our store and our pets and receive very little in return- most of our profit from customer purchases go right back into our animals.

We love and respect each individual animal in our care. Every animal that comes to us (whether it is a baby or a homeless adult) is fed the best food, treated by the best veterinarians, kept in a clean, safe and state approved environment. Our animals are monitored 24 hours a day. We are inspected constantly and have perfect records.
We are highly educated in animal psychology/ behavior and have a high emphasis on socialization for all of our pets.

Our pets receive lots of love and lots of playtime. We differ from most pet stores in that we do not cage our puppies and kittens- because socialization is crucial to any companion animal. We have an exercise pen for our small animals to get adequate exercise and playtime with customers. Our reptiles are not kept in tiny terrariums. We DO NOT believe in 'ordering' animals- we prefer to rely on local breeders for reptiles, puppies and some small animals, our kittens and many of our small animals are rescues. Our selection may not be as great as your corporate store, but what we have is healthy and we know exactly where it came from!

We have absolutely no tolerance for people who presume we would ever get our puppies from a 'puppy mill.'
We personally go to pick up our puppies from families who have bred them or, if they are being brought to us, we do checks on the breeder to ensure they are coming from a reputable source. We do not order our puppies and we find the horror stories about puppies being mass produced, kept in filthy conditions with no vet care and then shipped absolutely sickening. We are very aware that other pet stores do this and we will never ever join them in this. We can provide you with the info on where your pet came from and we pride ourselves on that. Rest assured we will never support any individual or corporation which would mistreat animals. Anybody who would believe we would do such things have no business being in our store.

We run a kitten and small animal adoption program all year round. We take in hundreds of kittens and small animals that are homeless and adopt them out. With both small animals and kittens the adoption fee covers a fraction of their keep and their veterinary costs during their time here.

We do the best to ensure that all of our animals- for adoption or for sale are placed in responsible, loving forever homes. We strongly discourage any individual to impulsively take home any pet. We do our best to inform people of the commitment of any pet. We have, over the years increased our paperwork process for adopters/ buyers of our pets. If we feel that the best interest of the animal are being overlooked, we have the right to refuse sale or adoption and we do so.

Kittens up for adoption

Doug's Wild Side Pets only accepts the healthiest local puppies from REPUTABLE local breeders of our choosing. We choose our puppies based on their temperament. All new puppies head straight to Centre Animal Hospital to have their health screened on arrival

Doug's Wild Side also takes in kittens that need homes, provides them with the proper veterinary care and adopts them out at a non-profit cost.

We believe that you need to interact with a puppy or kitten before you can make a decision about sharing your life with them, so we have rooms exclusively devoted to them. You are always welcome to enter, sit down and play until you have selected an animal (or one has selected you!). We have text available in the rooms on making the right decision for the future. We also have a team of staff who would be very happy to help you with any questions you may have!

To view our puppies- click the tab at the top of this page.

For more information on our kitten adoption program- click 'kitten adoptions' at the top of this page

We are usually inundated with homeless kittens and it is impossible to keep a list here on the website. If you would like to come meet our kittens, stop down and play.

Aquariums for everyone in the hobby

We have aquariums from 2 gallons to 300 gallons with stands, hoods, lights, gravel, filters, heaters and all of the other accessories. We stock our 30 fresh water aquariums with fish from around the world including Central and South America, Africa, and Australia. Wild Side Pets sells locally raised Angelfish and Fancy Guppies. We restock our aquariums weekly and almost always stock large Oscars and other predators.

For the Salt Water aquarium hobbyist, we stock aquariums, stands, hoods and filters. We also have protein skimmers, ultra violet sterilizers, test kits, and all your high intensity lighting needs. We stock our salt water aquariums with fish, invertebrate, live rock and corals from around the world. We resupply our aquariums weekly and once a month we bring in a huge selection of hand picked animals from our exclusive West Coast distributor. Doug's Wild Side Pets will special order salt water animals and will do our best to locate whatever you want including coral fragments and propagated live rock.

Some more about us...

Doug's Wild Side Pets sells and feeds exclusively Nutro Products dog and cat foods. We believe in the best nutrition for our animals. We feed no bi-product and no corn. We are always happy to educate our customers on what makes a good food because there are so many phonies on the market!

We restock 3,500 feeder fish and 16,000 crickets a week and sell mealworms, superworms, and waxworms for those customers who need live food.

Whatever your interest in companion animals, Wild Side Pets, Inc. can fill all your needs. Our motto is "If we don't have it, we can get it."

We also have small animals and reptiles

Doug's Wild Side Pets has all of your small animals needs filled whether you are looking for guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets (from Pennslyvania's own Path Valley Ferrets), gerbils, hamsters, chinchillas, mice or rats. We also take in a lot of small animals that are in need of good homes and adopt them for a fraction of the cost of their food and bedding during their stay with us. Our small animal room is full of brand new babies or loving older pets that just want a good home and we do the best to find responsible homes for each of them.

We carry a full line of treats, cages, bedding, food, and water bottles and toys.

We stock only a small number of reptiles from local breeders, but we have spectacular locally bred Bearded Dragons when they are available. We carry small frogs, geckos, and an occasional snake. And for all you reptile hobbists, we carry a full line of products to keep your animals happy and healthy. Doug's Wild Side Pets has heat pads, heat lights, UVA and UVB light bulbs, vitamin and calcium suppliments, cages, bedding, and much more.

We want your feedback

Please take a moment and tell us a little about you and if you like our web site. We will accept any and all comments, compliments, and criticisms. We love to please our customers and we will do what we can to accommodate you.

Stop down and meet our Joey!

Joey is a manx cat (he was born without a tail). Joey came to us back in 2008 when he and his littermates were found in a box in the woods. Joey and family were vetted by Doug's Wild Side and adopted out. Two weeks later, Joey returned. Joey's new owner's were reluctant to keep him due to the stains he was leaving on their carpets and furniture. Because Joey has no tail, he often leaves a small mark wherever he sits :(
As soon as Joey left the carrier he returned in, he was right at home. Joey lives here in the store and couldn't be happier. Joey gets all the treats and toys he wants and also gets to socialize with people and other kittens all day everyday (he LOVES to get lovin') At night Joey can hunt loose crickets and snuggle in his cozy bed here. We love you forever and ever Joey!

Madam Sally-Ann

Back in 2008 a customer stepped to the counter and announced that they were on their way to the SPCA to drop off their cat. We asked them to bring her in and when we saw the poor cat they were holding, we knew right away she wasn't heading to the shelter that day. Sally's owners no longer wanted her because 'she kept getting pregnant'. Poor Sally had a very big tummy and was indeed confirmed pregnant. Sally had her kittens in the safety of a foster home and once they were 8-weeks, they were vetted and adopted out, Sally was spayed. Sally can be found, most days sleeping on top of a warm fish tank top and avoiding small children. Most mornings we come in to find open bags of whichever bag of food or treats Sally decided she deserved! Sally may be a little madam but she is a much loved member of the Doug's Wild Side family.

King Cache is here to stay

Cache is a King Bearded Dragon ~7-years-old who would board with us 4-6 times/ year whilst his owners were on vacation. Caches main caregiver took very good care of Cache and loved him dearly. She was a valued customer and friend who tragically was taken from this world far too soon. She always trusted us with Cache (he even has always had his own tank set aside at the store for coming to board). Caches family (having enough to deal with) decided it would be best if Cache were to stay with us after his Mom's passing.
Cache now has his own set-up at the front of the store. He is hand fed daily and cared for with the love and time that his Mom gave him. We love Cache and he is a constant reminder of a wonderful woman and animal lover who is sorely missed by everybody who knew her.
